Our Historic Office

Approximately the front 1/3 of our office building comprises of what we consider our “trademark.” This part of our offices was built in 1844 as the residence of Attorney Daniel Chandler. Chandler’s law partner, John Archibald Campbell, was the only Mobilian to serve as a Justice of the United States Supreme Court. The Mobile Federal Court House is named for Campbell.

Simply by location, our offices reflect our active and diverse litigation practice. We are the closest law office to the Mobile County Courthouse and are only four blocks from the Campbell Federal Courthouse. A “workday” does not go by when one or more of our lawyers are in court in trials, hearings or other proceedings. We know that our reputation of eagerness to “go to court” (and the experience and abilities of our lawyers to do so competently and zealously) produces results for our clients that they seek.

Don and Holle Briskman purchased our office building in 1979 shortly after Mobile was struck by Hurricane Frederic and before Downtown Mobile had undergone its rebirth. Given the then condition of the building, Holle’s pre-renovation photographs are aptly entitled “vision.” The renovation was exceedingly successful and received rave reviews in the Mobile Press Register. At the time of the renovation the three story structure consisted of 11 rooms with 14’ ceilings and original wide heart of pine floors throughout.

After Donald and Mack formed the firm in 1988, the building was expanded by approximately 2/3 of the original space. The original renovation in the early 1980’s and the later addition were accomplished in coordination with the Mobile Historic Development Commission which notably has allowed Downtown Mobile to retain much of its long and rich 300 year history, while at the same time producing “Class A” office space such as ours. This progress has continued since the formation of the Mobile Downtown Alliance. The Alliance consists of Downtown Mobile property owners who “tax themselves” to improve and landscape Downtown properties.

The firm is very proud of its offices which are modern, spacious and comfortable and which reflect Mobile’s 300+ year history – both legal and otherwise.
